Agro Expo June Newsletter

June Edition

August 16-17, 2022

‍Live From the AgroExpo

The 2021 FFA CMC Field days were a great success! Pictured above is the NCRS Research Agronomist, Tim Duckert, explaining pest management strategies.

June is finally upon us meaning warmer weather, sunny days, and maybe even a few days on the lake are in order. Whatever the month may bring you, the AgroExpo staff is excited for a fun-filled schedule on the AgroExpo grounds.

This month, the first FFA Crop Management Challenge field day will be hosted where students will come and learn more about tillage, planting, and how to identify crop growth stages. While at the North Central Research Station, students will not only be able to take a look at their team's contest plots, but compare theirs to other contestants. Many conversations are brought forward by students, which create a deeper understanding for the agronomic industry.

Make sure to take a look at our Facebook page later this month for photographs and updates on the field day!

 Horsch Tiger 6MT

HJV strives to become the premier specialized agricultural equipment distributorship in the world. We are pleased to be able to present to you the Horsch Tiger MT. The Tiger MT has distinguished itself as the ultimate soil working machine in high residues. It offers a 4 bar frame style with 2 bars being a heavy disk system which ensures reliable cutting and incorporation of residues, and the other two bars being the TerraGrip III shanks for deep loosening of soil and additional mixing action. This machine follows that up with a single row leveling disk system and a large 24 inch wheeled packer for effective seedbed preparation in all soil types.

Advantages of Tiger MT

• Reliable cultivation of fields especially in the longest and heaviest residues.
• Primary cultivation of high residue cropland along with pastures and set aside land.
• Deep loosening of soil up to 14 inches of working depth.
• Intensive crumbling of heavy soils.
• Working depth of disc harrow and tines can be adjusted independently.

Horsch Maestro 3215SV

HJV strives to become the premier specialized agricultural equipment distributorship in the world. We are pleased to be able to present to you the Horsch Maestro. Getting a crop planted at the correct time, at the correct depth, and in the correct environment are the fundamental keys in setting a stage for maximum yield potential. The Maestro is built with a complete design concept to ensure precise placement of each seed to achieve rapid germination and uniform emergence. This is a platform that protects soil structure integrity during planting. The Maestro is the only row crop planter on the market today with a common-sense approach in design that incorporates basic agronomic principals for securing maximum yield potentials.

AgroExpo Speaker Announced

‍Ryan & Melissa Shaw

‍The AgroExpo is excited to announce Ryan & Melissa Shaw will be joining us as speakers this August. Ryan and Melissa Shaw farm 1,400 acres of corn, soybeans, sugar beets, and cereal rye in the heart of Michigan’s Thumb—Marlette, MI. After converting the entire farm over to strip-till in 2014, the Shaws now operate the farm with a conservation approach—strip-tilling, planting cover crops (including interseeding in corn), implementing controlled traffic, planting filter and pollinator strips in field edges, and heavily focusing on soil health.

They have found great success with their adoption of conservation practices and have found positive results when strip-tilling sugar beets. Their farm was honored by The Nature Conservancy in 2019 with the Conservation Innovation Award for their efforts toward improving soil health. They love sharing their knowledge and lessons learned with others in hopes of encouraging more farmers to consider conservation options for their own fields.

We hope that you will join us as we hear Ryan & Melissa discuss strip tilling at 9:30 am on Wednesday, August 17th.
