‍Live From the AgroExpo

With many different activities happening this past month, be it forage harvesting, finishing up the remainder of planting, or if you were lucky, taking a few trips to the lake, the AgroExpo staff were able to spend some time with some FFA Students. On June 17th, 40 students from all over Michigan were able to join us on the AgroExpo grounds for the June FFA Crop Management Challenge Field Day.

‍ The morning started with an ice breaker from the 2021-2022 Michigan FFA Region IV State Vice President, Savannah Mauk, where students put their survival skills to the test. Then Precision Planting's Jason Koning presented planter technologies and the importance of fertility placement. He went into depth about the different nutritents and the effects of having too much or too little on the productivity of the crop. OXBO had two representatives attend the field day to share OXBO's manure management systems that take advantage of tillage options.

‍Hutson, Inc also joined us that morning to share career and educational opportunities that the company offers. Just before lunch, the North Central Research Interns showed the students how to perform stand counts and identify growth stages in both corn and soybeans.

Students then were able to see their own plots and perform those stand counts and identify growth stages. Some even compared crops against their competitors
